The artist has participated in many exhibitions since 1987 throughout the former Soviet Union, Germany, France, Finland, Canada and the U.S. Kurbatsky is a member of the St.Petersburg Artist Union.

Sergei Kurbatsky lives with his wife, Svetlana, also an artist, in St.Petersburg where they share a working studio. Impressionistic with light and color, the artist paints his surroundings in the city, as well as landscapes and cityscapes of Europe. The realistic still life is also an integral part of Kurbatsky's work.
